Breweries Are Getting Very Creative During #PubJanuary
We are 25% through #PubJanuary, and my efforts to promote Oregon breweries has been eye-opening. I have long known and touted pubs as community gathering spots, and breweries have been great at putting a family-friendly spin on the events. I had no idea, however, how creative and varied the activities were. Trivia, sure; live music, obvs; gaming, absolutely (that one goes back centuries). But macrame classes? That one I did not see coming. Here is a representative, but far from exhaustive, list of the stuff happening in the next three weeks in Oregon’s breweries:
candle painting,
chess night,
comedy shows,
community fly tying,
macrame workshop,
magic shows,
speed painting,
yoga (with beer and without).
The best way for you to keep up on everything happening in the Oregon beer world is subscribing to the Celebrate Oregon Beer newsletter. I heartily encourage anyone with even a passing interest in the state to sign up—it’s free and we will never share or sell your emails. Not only does it contain event listings, but news, links to new articles on the Celebrate Oregon Beer website like Oregon’s Most Unusual Breweries, and feature articles you will only find in the newsletter. This week I report on the hop harvest and quote extensively from hop growers Gayle Goschie and Max Coleman. In past issues, I’ve interviewed owners of new breweries Pelagic and Terranaut, and told the story of Strata hops.
Even if you live in outside the state—maybe even way outside the state—I think you’ll enjoy keeping abreast of this important beer region. And who knows: maybe it will encourage you to visit. I’m sending a new issue out at the end of the day today, and you’ll receive one every other week (weekly during Pub January).
