Belgian Workers Blockading Breweries
I'm sure there are many ways in which the US and Belgium are different (beer being one of the now-lesser examples), but this labor dispute is one amazing example:
BRUSSELS, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world's largest beer maker, has failed to halt nearly two weeks of blockades at its Belgian breweries with the collapse of mediation talks on Tuesday. The Belgian workers have blocked the entrances to the company's plants in Leuven and Liege for 13 days and a week atFar out. Can you imagine a fight over 263 jobs crippling a multi-billion dollar industry in the US?
Hoegaarden in protest at AB InBev's plan to cut a net 263 jobs out of its 2,700 Belgian workforce.
InBev Belgium, which has a 57 percent share of the Belgian beer market, has said it risks running out of raw materials soon. Barrels and cases of beer have been piling up.
