John and Jeff's Excellent Adventures (Pt 1, Get Your Tickets Now!)

John Holl is on a book tour, and he wisely took my advice about visiting the Northwest during fresh hop season. He’ll be in Bellingham on Thursday, Chuckanut on Saturday, and he rolls into Portland on Tuesday. Below I have listings for his two stops, and I plan to be at both of them as a supporting fan. During the days, we will be drinking beer and chatting and maybe it will spark a part two of these adventure chronicles. Whatever else happens, John will leave with the experience of a first-rate fresh-hop bacchanal under his belt.

The book he’s promoting is The Craft Brewery Cookbook, where, for example, he offers a recipe for grilled Shishito peppers with lime and salt, to be paired with Bend Brewing Fresh Hop IPA. “Shishitos are a mild pepper, although occasionally some have some heat, so eating them is always a bit of an adventure. The fat from the olive oil, the salt, and the flavorful pepper pair particularly nicely with fresh-hop beers.” (I may have to have him whip me up a batch for QA purposes.) There are 70 other recipes in here, each with a suggested pairing.

If you’re at all curious about the book or meeting John, please consider joining him at one of the events. Writing is lonely, and promoting books is hard, and it means so much when people come out to say hi.
