You May Be Missing Something Good

It’s been a couple months since I began offering email updates, and what started as a half-baked exploration has gelled into something pretty darn worthwhile. Even if you visit the site regularly, you may enjoy receiving them.

I was prodded into this (hardly cutting edge) offering by readers who didn’t visit regularly but wanted to keep up. In the initial weeks, I was sending out an email every time I posted on the blog, but soon realized that might be overkill. With 2-3 posts a week plus the Saturday digest, people were hearing from me every other day. I know I wouldn’t want that many messages clogging my inbox. So now it’s just the digest plus an occasional email for a post with breaking news or special import (and to date I haven’t sent any of those out, so they’re rare). Subscribers can expect to get 4-6 emails a month from me. The weekly digests have evolved, and are now stuffed with goodies.

In The Weekly Saturday Digest

The weekly digest contains more than links to the week’s blog posts—though of course it does contain those as well. Please click through for posts you missed!(Traffic and all that.) Finishing up the first one, the email looked a bit sad containing just links, so I started adding stuff. Beer Sherpa seemed like an obvious inclusion, and I’ve included a review and recommendation in every post. In addition to that, I have a rotating slate of info I tuck in.

The blog is now 16 years old, which means there’s a bunch of stuff in the archives, and I usually include a link relevant to whatever is happening on the blog or going on in the larger beer world. Periodically, I have occasion to add other content as well, like:

  • Podcast links. We have a new one dropping today, for example, and you can read about it in tomorrow’s digest.

  • Links to stories I found especially valuable or interesting. Last week I linked to Ezra’s great post on the death of Ryan Buxton.

  • Info on upcoming appearances I will be making. To read about a Bay Area event this month, sign up now!

It’s a sure bet this isn’t an exhaustive list, but it does capture what you’ve already missed. So, as the salesfolk reliably urge: sign up today! It’s free and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Comments on this feature are welcome, and current subscribers, please weigh in with any requests/suggestions you may have. I’m easy like Sunday morning and happy to accommodate your preferences where I can.
